The highlight of the meeting was the discussion surrounding congenital CMV led by Professor William Rawlinson AM, Director of both the Virology Research Laboratory and SEALS Microbiology (Virology division), The Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick. Amelie

Next week my little princess Amelie Scarlet will turn 2. What a journey these last 2 years have been. We have experienced depths of sorrow that I didn’t know were possible to utter elation and incredible joy. As a tribute to the amazing little girl she has become and to the wonderful friends, family and health professionals who have helped us every step of the way I wanted to share her story! Cruz

Cruz My dream as I was growing up was to be a mum, and in 2004 that dream came true…  I found out I was pregnant and I couldn’t wait to meet my little baby. My pregnancy was strange all the way through I thought, when I raised my concerns to my OB he told me I was probably panicking over nothing and to try not to stress about it anymore. I was 33 weeks when after a routine ultrasound found the...

Chantelle & Kaiden

Chantelle & Kaiden My partner and I decided to start trying for a baby in September 2006 but we officially started in October 2006… When my next period due date started getting close I couldn’t help but do a test about a week before I was due. When it turned out to be negative, I was stupidly devastated. It was completely unrealistic of me to have thought it would happen that fast. So I then assumed it would happen between then...

Mia

Mia Well, Mia’s story is a long one so I will try and condense it for you. Mia is now 3 years old and has had more than 30 hospital admissions and 4 operations since birth and has been on many medications all due to CMV. Mia was born at 34 weeks gestation and had no symptoms at birth. She weighed only 4 pounds 1 ounce. Mia spent 3 weeks in NICU and on day 2 started becoming very jaundiced and...

Marcus

Marcus First of all I’d like to introduce myself. I’m Nicole and my son is named Marcus. Marcus was born at 38 weeks, weighing 6pound 13ounces from an emergency ceaser as he was going into distress. When delivered he was not breathing, tachycardic, and after resuscitating they noticed he had an enlarged spleen and low platelet count. This was because of CMV. He was taken to the neo-natal ward and extensive tests were done. My son looked like a pin cushion....

William & Emmaline

William & Emmaline When my husband, Hugh, & I were told that we were expecting twins at our 7 week ultrasound we were nervous and worried about how we were going to manage but we were also very excited and looked forward to completing our family and welcoming two wonderful new miracles into our lives. My pregnancy was hard work as most of them are. I was pregnant with twins, I had morning sickness in the first trimester, extreme fatigue in all...
